What a plan changes

  • $20k to $480ka month. Tile & Bath Co, 18 monthsStore, search and ads run as one plan.
  • 90 to 1,500organic sessions a month. Mountain CultureEvery venue ranking from one local strategy.
  • 10 officeson one marketing system. Dott & CrossittA plan that scaled with the network.
  • FreeGrowth Audit to start itA clear view of where you are and what we'd do first. Yours either way.

Sound familiar?

Does one of these sound like you?

We see these 4 situations every week. Each has a first move, and the Growth Audit tells you what yours is.

"We grew every year until this one."

The referrals and channels that got you here are still running, just not compounding, and there's budget for the next step if someone can show what it returns. We audit the whole funnel and come back with which move is worth making next. Then we make it.

Plan the next stage

"I seem to be the project manager now."

An SEO agency, an ads freelancer and a web developer, none of whom talk to each other, and 3 fine-looking reports that don't match revenue. One plan gives each supplier a role, or brings the work under one roof. Either way, you stop being the middleman.

Bring it under one plan

"We open in March and there's one shot at this."

A new venue, product or market with a date on it, where brand, website and channels all have to be ready at once and the order matters. We sequence the plan back from the date, with the team that's building all of it.

Plan the launch

"Word of mouth got us here. It won't get us there."

The work is good and customers who find you stay, but marketing so far has been a logo, a website and hoping. We size a plan to the business, build the first 2 things, and keep a senior strategist across it every month.

Start with a plan

Who should write it

A consultant, a channel agency, or us.

All 3 can be right. It comes down to who carries the plan out, and who answers for the result.

  • A consultant

    Advises, then leaves.

You get a strategy document and a workshop. Delivering it, and briefing everyone who touches it, stays your job. Right if you already have a team ready to execute.

  • A channel agency

    Executes, in isolation.

Your SEO or ads run well against their own report. Nobody owns whether the whole thing adds up to growth. Right if the strategy already exists.

What the plan covers

Brand, website, channels and follow-up: in charge or not.

Most businesses have someone on 2 of these. The plan looks at all 4, because the customer experiences them as one thing.

The brand

PART 01

The brand

Decides why you and not the other 3, so every channel has something worth saying.

The website

PART 02

The website

Turns the attention every channel earns into enquiries and orders. Built to convert before a dollar is spent sending people to it.

The channels

PART 03

The channels

Each with a role. Search catches demand, ads and social create it, in the order the budget allows.

The follow-up

PART 04

The follow-up

Answers enquiries the same day and brings customers back. Email, CRM and the reporting that ties it together.

What's actually in it

A plan your whole team can actually run.

Most strategy decks get presented once and filed. Ours is a working document: it names your real buyers, sets the brief for your website and your ads, and tells you what to say no to this year.

  • Who buys, and why

Your best customers, what they compare you with, and the one reason they choose you.

  • Where you stand

You against the competitors your buyers actually consider: offer, price, proof and presence.

  • A role for every channel

What brand, website, search, ads, social and email each have to do, and how the budget splits.

  • The first quarter

What gets built, what goes live and who does it, in order.

  • What we measure

The baseline, the numbers that show the plan is working, and the ones that mean we change it.

A 2-minute test

Would your marketing pass this?

We ask these 5 questions in every Growth Audit, and most businesses score 2. If you're under 3, the audit is worth your time; it's the same questions, answered properly, with your numbers.

Get the Growth Audit
  1. A written plan someone can hand you

If the strategy lives in the founder's head or the agency's slides, it is not one. Ask for the document.

  2. Everyone working toward the same number

Revenue, enquiries or bookings, with a baseline. Not sessions, followers or rankings.

  3. A role for each channel

Why you are on it and what it is meant to do. If the answer is "everyone is", it has no role.

  4. An order of operations

Brand before site, site before spend. If ads are running into a page that loses 9 in 10 visitors, the order is wrong.

  5. Named owner for the whole number

Every channel in one dashboard, one person accountable for the whole number, not one per supplier.

What this looks like in practice

$20k to $480k a month, in the order the plan said.

A tile and bathroom supplier with a good showroom and a website that didn't sell. The tempting move was ads. The plan said fix the store first, because sending traffic to a site that doesn't convert just makes the loss faster. Within 18 months the online store turns over more than the showroom.

The plan

MONTHS 0 TO 1

The plan

Audit of the catalogue, the buyers and the 3 competitors. Decision: fix the store before spending on traffic.

The store

MONTHS 1 TO 4

The store

Shopify rebuild with collections structured for search and a checkout built for trade buyers.

Tile and Bath Co collection email

MONTHS 3 TO 9

Search and Shopping

Ecommerce SEO on the new collections; Google Shopping on the margin lines. Organic sessions 14x in 17 months.

Scale

MONTHS 6 TO 18

Scale

Meta added for new ranges, email flows on the list the store built. Revenue $20k to $480k a month.

How we'd work together

Depends on one question: who's doing the work?

If the answer is "we were hoping you would", that's the first option. If you have people and they need direction, that's the second.

Marketing leadership

For in-house teams

You have a marketing coordinator, a designer, maybe an agency or two. A senior Q strategist sets the plan, runs the monthly rhythm and holds every supplier to it. The fractional CMO model, without the title.

  • Quarterly plan and monthly priorities for your team
  • Briefs, reviews and vendor management done for you
  • Q fills gaps (creative, web, a channel) only where your team cannot
  • Same AllNow dashboard, one number

Best for businesses with people in place who need direction and accountability more than hands.

After the plan is written

What working with us actually looks like, month to month.

The plan is week 4. This is everything after it.

Part 01 of 06

The Growth Audit

Before anything, 3 weeks of looking: every channel's numbers, the website, the brand, the list, and the 3 competitors your buyers compare you with. It ends in a clear view of where you are and what we'd do first. It's free, and it's yours to keep whether or not we go further.

What it changes: You'll know what we'd do and why before you've committed to anything.

The alternatives, honestly

You could also hire someone, or keep doing it yourself.

Both are legitimate, and if a hire is genuinely the better move for you, the Growth Audit will say so.

Keep doing it yourself

Free, until it isn't.

Works while the hours exist. Stops the month the business needs more of you than there is.

Hire a marketing manager

Good hire, stretched across 4 jobs.

Works if you hire senior and accept that no one person is a strategist, designer, developer and channel specialist.

A Q growth plan

The thinking and the team behind it.

A written plan, the specialists to deliver it, and one report. Scoped after the free Growth Audit.

How a plan comes together

Your first quarter: audit, plan, build, live.

The Growth Audit and baseline in the first 3 weeks. The plan written and agreed in week 4. Foundations built in month 2. Channels live and reported by month 3.

You see spend, cost per lead, return on ad spend and revenue from your CRM in AllNow, compared with month 1, and which creative sold.

Step 01 · Weeks 1 to 3

Growth Audit and baseline

Every channel, the site, the brand, the list, against 3 competitors. A clear view of what to do first. Free, and yours to keep.

Growth Audit and baseline

Who does the work

The person who writes your plan is in the room every month.

Not handed to a junior after the pitch. These 6 run the plans, and the designers, developers and channel specialists sit within earshot.

Marketing strategy agency, Sydney

Marketing strategy for Sydney and Australia.

Q Agency is a marketing strategy agency in Sydney working with businesses across Australia. We write growth plans for trades and home services, hospitality groups, professional services firms, health practices, online stores and B2B companies, and then we build and run them: brand, website, search, paid ads, social, email and the CRM behind it, from one office.

A marketing strategy, done properly, is a document that gives every part of your marketing a job. It starts with who buys from you and why, places you against the competitors your buyers actually compare you with, assigns a role and a budget to each channel, sets the order in which things get built, and names the numbers that will tell you it is working. Ours runs to about 18 pages, is agreed with you before anything is built, and is reviewed every quarter by the senior strategist who wrote it.

What makes Q different from a marketing consultant is that we do not hand the plan over. The designers, developers and channel specialists who deliver it sit with the strategist, so nothing is lost between the plan and the work. Every engagement starts with a free Growth Audit: a clear view of where the business is and what we would do first. Tile & Bath Co grew from $20k to $480k a month in 18 months on one plan; Mountain Culture went from 90 to 1,500 organic sessions a month; Dott & Crossitt run 10 offices on a single marketing system. We are Google, Meta, Webflow and HubSpot partners.

Faqs

Questions we get about marketing strategy.

Straight answers. If yours is not here, ask on the call.

What is in a marketing strategy?

Who buys from you and why, where you stand against the competitors your buyers compare you with, a role and a budget for each channel, the order things get built, and the numbers that show it is working. Ours runs to about 18 pages and is agreed with you before anything is built.

What is the Growth Audit?

A free, clear view of where your marketing is: every channel, the website, the brand, the list and the follow-up, against 3 competitors. It ends with what we would do first. It is the first step of every engagement, and it is yours whether or not you go on to work with us.

Does a small business need a marketing strategy?

Yes, and a short one is fine. A small business with a written plan spends in the right order and stops paying for channels that have no role. The plan is sized to the business; the discipline is the same.

Do you just write the strategy, or deliver it too?

Both, always. We do not sell a strategy on its own. The plan is the thing we are accountable for delivering, either by building and running it ourselves or by leading your in-house team and suppliers.

What is a fractional CMO, and do you offer it?

Senior marketing leadership on a part-time basis: someone who sets the plan, runs the monthly rhythm and holds suppliers to it, without a full-time hire. We offer it as marketing leadership: a senior Q strategist across your team and suppliers each month, with the Q team filling gaps only where needed.

We already have an agency for SEO or ads. Can you still help?

Yes. The plan gives every channel a role, including the ones other people run. We can lead the suppliers you have, or bring channels in-house at Q where it makes sense. Either way, one plan and one report.

How long until a strategy shows results?

The plan is written in month 1. Foundations land in month 2. Channels are live and reported by month 3, and compound from there. What returns first depends on what the plan puts first; quick wins are usually in the site and the follow-up.

How much does a marketing strategy cost?

It depends on what the plan calls for. We scope it with you after the Growth Audit, once we know where the business is and what it needs, and the audit itself is free.

How is Q different from a marketing consultant?

A consultant advises and leaves you to brief agencies and staff. Q writes the plan and delivers it with the designers, developers and channel specialists who sit in the same office, so nothing is reinterpreted at a handover.

How do you measure whether the strategy is working?

Against the baseline taken in the Growth Audit. Every channel is attributed to enquiries and revenue in AllNow, reported monthly with a plain-English note on what changed and why. The strategist reviews the whole plan each quarter.
