Our advice · September 2026
The cheapest, best-converting campaign in most accounts.
Remarketing clicks cost a fraction of a first-visit click because the audience is small and already knows you, and they convert at 3 to 5 times the rate because the visitor was already interested. That makes it the best-returning campaign in most accounts. It is also the easiest to overdo: a visitor who sees your ad 20 times in a week stops trusting you. So the work is in the rules: who gets followed, for how long, how often, and with what message. We never sell it alone; it is a layer inside every Google and Meta plan we run.
3 to 5x
Conversion rate vs first visit
The visitor already looked. The follow-up finishes the job the first click started.
7 to 30 days
Window
Long enough to catch the decision, short enough to stop before it is annoying. Set by how long your buyers take.
3 to 5 a week
Frequency cap
Enough to be remembered, not enough to be resented. Most inherited accounts have no cap at all.

Remarketing needs traffic to remarket to. It is a layer inside Google and Meta, not a service on its own.
What is Remarketing?
Remarketing (Google's word) and retargeting (everyone else's) are the same thing: a pixel on your site notes who visited which pages, and an ad platform shows those people a follow-up ad elsewhere: Google Display and YouTube, Facebook and Instagram, or all of them. Dynamic remarketing goes further for stores, showing the exact product someone looked at or left in the cart.
Because the audience is small and warm, the ads are cheap and convert well. The risk is the opposite of most channels: not too little reach but too much. Without a frequency cap, a window that ends, and different messages for different pages visited, the same ad follows the same person for weeks and the brand pays for it in trust. We set the rules first, then build the audiences by what people did on the site, and give each one a message that matches: a review for someone who read the pricing page, the product for someone who left it in the cart, nothing at all for someone who already bought.
Visits
Someone lands on your quote page from Google, an ad or a referral.
Leaves
Most do: 9 in 10 leave without enquiring. A pixel notes the visit.
Sees the offer
Over the next 7 to 30 days: a reminder on Instagram, a review on YouTube, the offer on a news site. Capped at a few views a week.
Comes back
And converts at 3 to 5 times the rate of a first visit. Reported as a remarketing conversion, not a miracle.
- Message matched to the page visitedSomeone who read pricing gets proof. Someone who left a cart gets the product. Someone who bought gets nothing, or the next thing.
- Reminded wherever they scrollThe visit came from Google; the reminder can be on Instagram or YouTube, so the same audience sees it across several placements.
- Capped before it nagsCapped at 3 to 5 views a week, with a window that ends and a message that helps. The rules are the difference.
Who remarketing is for
Worth it once you have traffic. Never on its own.
Remarketing needs 3 things to work: traffic, a pixel that has been collecting, and a reason to come back. Here is the honest split.
Run it now if
- You already run Google or Meta and have visitors who do not convert first time.
- Your purchase takes days or weeks: quotes, considered products, B2B, anything over a few hundred dollars.
- You run a store; dynamic product remarketing on abandoned carts is the highest-returning campaign most stores can run.
- You have a second message worth showing: reviews, a case study, a guide, an offer.
Not yet if
- Site traffic is under a few hundred visits a month; the audiences will be too small to leave learning.
- You have no pixel or Conversions API yet; the audience has to be collected before it can be shown to.
- The product is bought on the spot with no second thought; the first ad has to do the whole job.
- You have not run any acquisition yet; there is nobody to remarket to. Start with Google or Meta.
Not yet? Start acquisition with Google Ads or Meta Ads and install the pixel on day 1; the remarketing layer switches on the month the audience is big enough. Google Ads
Our Remarketing Strategy
Everything runs inside your Google and Meta accounts rather than as a separate line.
Part 01 of 04
Audiences by behaviour
Visited the pricing page, started a form, left a cart, watched half the video, already bought. Each is an audience with its own message and its own window. Built from GA4, the Meta pixel with Conversions API, and your customer list, and excluded from each other so nobody sees the wrong ad.
What it changes: The follow-up matches what the person actually did, so it reads as helpful rather than as surveillance.
Part 02 of 04
Frequency, windows and exclusions
Capped at 3 to 5 impressions a week, with a window set by how long your buyers take to decide, and converters excluded the day they convert. Negative placements so the ad does not appear next to the wrong content.
What it changes: People are reminded, not hounded, and you stop paying to advertise to customers you already have.
Part 03 of 04
Creative for the second visit
The first ad said what you do; the follow-up has to add something: a review, a case study, a guide, the product itself, a time-limited reason. Made by the studio, tested monthly, matched to the page the visitor left.
What it changes: The return visit converts at 3 to 5 times the rate because it answers the objection that stopped the first one.
Part 04 of 04
Dynamic remarketing for stores
Product feed connected to Google and Meta so the ad shows the exact item someone viewed or abandoned, with price and availability live. Cart recovery flows coordinated with email so the customer is not hit twice.
What it changes: Abandoned carts turn into orders, usually the highest return on ad spend in the account.

Remarketing alongside Google and Meta
Acquisition brings the visit. Remarketing finishes it.
Remarketing has nothing to work on without acquisition, and acquisition leaks without remarketing. They are one plan.
- AcquisitionGoogle AdsBrings the first visit from someone searching. The audience remarketing feeds on.
- AcquisitionMeta AdsCreates the first visit from someone who was not searching. Same pixel, same audiences.
- RetentionRemarketingFollows up the visits that did not convert, across Google, YouTube and Meta, with rules that stop it becoming a nuisance.
Remarketing is not scoped as a separate service. It is built into every Google and Meta plan from month 1, switched on when the audience is large enough, and reported as its own line so you can see what the layer returns.

Remarketing agency, Sydney
Remarketing and retargeting for Australian businesses.
Q Agency runs remarketing and retargeting from Sydney for businesses across Australia, inside the Google Ads and Meta accounts we manage. Remarketing shows a follow-up ad to people who visited your site and did not enquire or buy, across Google Display, YouTube, Facebook and Instagram, and for stores, the exact product they viewed or left in the cart.
Because the audience already knows you, the clicks are cheap and convert at 3 to 5 times the rate of a first visit, which makes remarketing the best-returning campaign in most accounts. It is also the easiest to overdo. So we set the rules first: audiences built from what people did on the site, a window matched to how long your buyers take, a frequency cap of 3 to 5 impressions a week, converters excluded the day they convert, and a second message that adds something the first ad did not. Media runs in your own accounts and remarketing is reported as its own line in AllNow, so you can see what the layer returns.
We do not sell remarketing on its own. It needs traffic to work on, and it is built into every acquisition plan we run from month 1.
Faqs
Questions we get about remarketing.
Straight answers. If yours is not here, ask on the call.
What is the difference between remarketing and retargeting?
Nothing. Remarketing is Google's word, retargeting is everyone else's. Both mean showing a follow-up ad to someone who visited your site or engaged with you and did not convert.
How long should ads follow someone?
As long as your buyers take to decide, and no longer: 7 days for an impulse product, 30 for a quote, longer for B2B. Converters are excluded the day they convert. A window that never ends is what makes remarketing feel creepy.
How often should someone see the ad?
We keep it to 3 to 5 times a week. Enough to be remembered, not enough to be resented. Most inherited accounts have no frequency cap at all.
Does remarketing work for B2B?
Well, because B2B decisions take weeks and involve several people. Someone who read the pricing page gets a case study; someone who downloaded a guide gets the next step. LinkedIn retargeting is added where the audience is there.
Is it creepy?
It is if it is uncapped, endless and shows the same ad. It is not if it is capped, ends, and shows something useful: a review, a guide, the product they were looking at. The rules are the whole difference.
Can you run remarketing on its own?
No, and we would not recommend anyone does. It needs traffic to work on. It is built into every Google and Meta plan we run and switched on when the audience is large enough to leave learning.
What is dynamic remarketing?
For stores: an ad that shows the exact product someone viewed or left in the cart, with live price and availability from your feed, on Google and Meta. Usually the highest return on ad spend in the account.
How do you report it?
As its own line in AllNow: spend, conversions and revenue from the remarketing layer, beside acquisition, against month 1. You see what the layer returns rather than a blended number.
